The Sardinia project is coming along well. Last week, we finally got a chance to meet with Lorenzo, who actually went to Sardinia to take pictures of the site. The pictures were extremely helpful! He even made a plan of where all the pictures were taken from, so I was really able to get a better idea of what the space is like--and what a space it is! The building may be run down and deserted, but it feels like a cathedral. The rooms are tall, spacious, and light-filled, everything is connected, and everything is embedded with history. We are definitely going to change and add certain aspects of the structure, but we are doing our best to preserve as much of the original building as possible. We want our changes and additions to be clear and distinct, what we call in architectural terms, "the reveal."
Last week, I spent most of my time re-making my 3D Rhino model to be more accurate according to the plans and pictures that Lorenzo gave us. Meanwhile, Federica started on some more detailed plans that incorporated most of our initial ideas for how to proceed with the project.
Last week, I also had dinner with Maria Rita, one of my new good friends from work. She just moved to a new apartment with her boyfriend, and they wanted to feed me a traditional Italian meal. It was delicious! They are so sweet. We had bruschetta, then pasta with clams, then squid with peas, and we finished with strawberries and vanilla ice cream. Buona!
